Abstract

The review presents modern ideas on mechanisms of photodynamic therapy and laser-induced thermotherapy, as well as technical problems of using laser radiation of different intensities and its effects on biological tissues. Results of research into efficiency and safety of the use of laser radiation in combined treatment of skin cancer are reviewed in the article. Due to efficiency, the ease of use and lack of adverse effects, photodynamic therapy and laser-induced thermotherapy present a very high potential of application in the treatment of skin diseases. More than 35 years of experience in the use of lasers in dermatology demonstrates the high efficiency of this method for treatment of various diseases. However, despite the positive results obtained in clinical practice, laser therapy is used in dermatology unfairly rare. With account of the simplicity, the absence of adverse effects, limited contraindications laser therapeutic technologies can be considered as the most promising treatment modalities in dermatology. New therapeutic technologies should be introduced into educational programs. Researchers of the А. Tsyb MRRC and Obninsk Institute for Nuclear Power Engineering of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI are working under development of educational complex program «Medical Physics». This cooperation is expected to improve professional training and education in health physics.
